WGM Peg Oliver – October, 2017

As I look across the lake, I see the beautiful colors of fall starting to emerge on the trees. With the gentle breeze, there are leaves twirling down laying out the first layer of color on the ground. Where has the time gone? September seems to have flown by. Jerry and I welcomed September in by helping Robbinsdale Chapter at their Dining Hall at the Minnesota State Fair. The members of the Robbinsdale Masonic Family have worked hard at the State Fair since 1937. Memories of past fairs were shared with pride with the dining hall starting in a tent with food brought in by members. It was heartwarming to be greeted by sisters and brothers from across our great state.

Your Grand Family started their September travels visiting Lake Harriet Chapter where several Grand Officers assisted them in welcoming one new member. We then traveled to Kedron Chapter for WGP’s Homecoming and the honoring of your Grand Marshal, Del Larson. Lots of giggles were heard as members attempted to match baby and toddler pictures to the current Grand Officers. We then headed south to Royal Chapter for their Rob Morris Night and north to Mesaba Chapter to honor your Grand Martha, Brenda Peterson. Jerry and I also had the privilege with joining with the sisters and brothers of the Prince Hall Grand Chapter of Minnesota at their 92nd Annual Communications Banquet. It was great to share many hugs and smiles!

Our series of Area Conferences have come to an end for this Grand Chapter year. It was great to see outstanding attendance at each of the conferences. Our host chapters welcomed attendees with smiles and wonderful hospitality, and I extend heartfelt thanks for all your hard work. The Area Conference Team addressed many new topics, with our sisters and brothers asking many great questions for discussion. In total, the Grand Family had the honor to initiate ten new members. I offer each chapter a challenge; please try your hardest to initiate at least one new member by the end of this Grand Chapter year. PLEASE accept this challenge. Kudos to the Area Conference Team, District Instructors, the Grand Officers, as well as others that assisted. If you have any ideas for topics that you want to be addressed, please let Kathy Foster or Scott Anderson know, so they can be incorporated into next year’s agenda.

I was initiated into Martha Chapter in January of 1983, and this past week I had the opportunity to be present when Sister Mary Ross was given her 50-year pin. I also have a heavy heart as we just learned of the passing of our Sister Hope Buck. She was Worthy Matron when I joined Star and has been such an inspiration to me. I know that she was welcomed with open arms to that great celestial chapter by her husband Ken and daughter Melody. Your smile and hugs will be missed by many.

Please mark your calendar on November 4th for the Annual Cancer Benefit to be held at the beautiful Masonic Heritage Center. We hope that we can fill the place. The event is open to the public, so please invite your family and friends. It will be an evening to enjoy a lot of cheerful companionship and social enjoyment while raising money for such a worthwhile cause.

In closing I share with you this thought from Confucius: Wherever you go, go with all your heart.  I hope you go many places with love in your heart.

Star Love,

Peg
